is there an app to help design a room

Software to help room planning

I'm going to be remodeling a few rooms both at the office and home. No demo. Looking for software where I can draw out each room's dimensions, and its content's dimensions. I'd like to be able to plug and play different pieces of furniture and layouts.

Preferably something on iOS or Android so I can use it while furniture shopping.

Any suggestions? Thanks interior design!

Like the above person said, sketchup. It's easy to use and the warehouse allows you to import furniture, because it's google it has like a million items to pick from. People can upload their own creations (like a chair someone made) or companies or individuals will have fairly exact replicas of pieces so you know the scale is correct. I don't believe there is anything for your smart phone, that would probably take up too much data to do correctly.

I'm trying out the free "homestyler" app on my new iPad. Haven't tried much with it yet, having just finished a few projects in my year old condo...

I just downloaded an app called Planner 5D the other day. It's free and it's awesome. It lets you put in custom measurements, ultimately building a room (or house) with furnishings that you can toggle between 2D and 3D view. It has a ton of options for the accessories (furniture, decor, etc.) but only a couple basic ones are included in the app. You can unlock all items if you pay $20 something, which still doesn't seem too bad. I've only played around with it for an hour or so, but I had no issues. I'm thoroughly impressed so far.

I use MagicPlan along with a laser measuring tool and it works nicely on my iPhone. Mapped out our whole house in about an hour.

Sorry if this is a dumb question.. But how do you get accurate corner to corner dimensions with a laser measure? Do you just measure the device itself and add that to the read out?
